As a founding member, then leader of the HSMSE (High School for Math, Science and Engineering) math team, I advocated for student involvement and administrative support, developing the team from a fledgling virtual entity to one with school-sponsered courses, afterschools, and team events. In its first five years, the team has produced seven AIME qualifiers, seven NYC Math Team members, and placed in the top teams at the DMI, SBIMC, ARML, and Big Red competitions.
This project at Mercy College involved a 42 - step differentiation, with the goal of determining which factors (permeability constant, surface area of filter, etc.) could be minimized / maximized / had to be maintained for efficient and high-volume water purification, with the goal of maximizing accesability for low-income communities. After our final presentation, a panel awarded our team the title of best overall team, best poster, best presentation, and named me valedictorian.
